BTTB Internet Slow Down due to Fiber Cable Cut in Alexandria of Egypt
The 'SEA-ME-WE4', Only one submarine cable connect Bangladesh to Internet world via different gateway of Europe and Singapore in Asia. Full Internet data traffic depends on this cable path, including International Telephone Call.
After last incident of Fiber cut around November 2007 in internal backbone, connecting Dhaka to landing point of this fiber cable, it was again having problem due to other incident in Alexandria of Egypt Wednesday.
As per Bdnews24.com, The SEA-ME-WE4 submarine cable has been cut in Alexandria of Egypt Wednesday, suspending the BTTB's Internet connectivity with the Europe and USA, BTTB official said. The BTTB official could not confirm how long it will take to restore the link.
BTTB gave an statement telling the mishap in Alexandria took place at 10:15am of Bangladesh time. But the cause of the mishap remains unknown to the authorities.
This incident of Alexandria of Egypt, caused 4 units of STM4, (About 620Mb/s of data capacity) unusable. BTTB has different gateway (peering agreement) with different provider, SingTel in Singapore is one of them. BTTB is now diverting Internet data Traffic via this provider. As per peering agreement with SingTel, capacity of this peer is about 310Mb/s. At this moment, BTTB routing all traffic through this path.
Though the data traffic is high and only this path is available, there is hough Congestions on links.
There were several proposal to join in redundant submarine link was been refused before, mishaps such as Alexandria can be happen in future. This is high time to think again for the redundant submarine link before any chance gone ...
